TE 810 Introduction Post

Hello Everyone,

My name is Heather Cole and I am a new student in the Teaching and Curriculum program at Michigan State University.  I completed my undergraduate degree from Michigan State in History and Economics and completed my internship year in 2009.  I substitute taught for a year before being hired as a secondary Social Studies teacher in Taylor Public Schools.  I just recently completed my first year teaching and hope to continue there next year, pending recall from being laid off.  I grew up in Clarkston, Michigan and just recently relocated to Warren, MI after being hired in Taylor.

In my free time I enjoy reading, biking, shopping, traveling, and spending much of my summer Up North at my parent's house in Traverse City.

I decided to take this course primarily because of it's emphasis on the historical background of the educational system in the U.S.  Even having majored in History,  I have not had too much exposure to earlier eras of  American education.  I am interested the influence of the different educational eras we will be covering and their relation to current educational issues.  I am also interested in comparing this evolution of American education to that of other countries, to compare what is (possibly) lacking or could be reformed to better our system.
